Tanzania has a population of almost 60 million people. About two thirds make a living in the agricultural sector. Vi Agroforestry partners with a number of farmers’ organizations in different parts of the country. Our local partners organize farmers who grow everything from coffee to bananas and vanilla.
The core of the work we do together with our partners is to teach methods for sustainable agricultural land management, such as agroforestry. Agroforestry is a method where trees are planted together with other crops to give richer and more varied harvests. Our work is also focused on empowering our partners to be strong, democratic organizations with a high capacity to meet their members’ rights and give their members the knowledge and service they need to engage in sustainable agriculture.
At present, Vi Agroforestry has two projects and one overall programme in Tanzania.
